Woman With Healthy TeethHow tooth-colored fillings and crowns from your dentists in Brookfield, WI, can rebuild your smile

Did you know you can restore your damaged teeth with restorations that are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth? It’s true! Small repairs can be completed with tooth-colored fillings, while larger repairs can be completed with porcelain crowns. Both of these restorations not only strengthen your smile, but they can beautify it as well!

Drs. Terence and Mary Eileen Geary at Geary Dentistry in Brookfield, WI, offer a full range of services including tooth-colored fillings and porcelain crowns to restore your damaged teeth.

More about Tooth Restoration

Tooth-colored fillings use a liquid resin material known as composite. Composite can be matched to the color of your teeth and sculpted to restore the natural contours of your teeth. After placement and being hardened with an ultraviolet light, the tooth colored fillings blend perfectly with your natural teeth. Imagine, no more metal fillings!

When you choose tooth-colored fillings, you can count on:

  • A beautifully natural-look
  • A strong filling that is bonded to the remaining tooth structure
  • A completely metal-free smile, with no metallic taste or look

If your tooth is badly damaged, a tooth-colored filling may not be enough. In cases of severe tooth damage, a dental crown is the best choice, for a crown covers the entire surface of your tooth above the gumline.

Dental crowns don’t just restore your damaged teeth. They can make your smile more beautiful too! That’s because today’s dental crowns are made of lifelike materials such as porcelain. Due to its light reflective properties, porcelain accurately mimics the look of natural tooth enamel. When you choose porcelain crowns, they will be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

You can also choose porcelain fused to a metal foundation, known as a PFM crown. These crowns provide increased strength and beauty, but because of the metal, they aren’t light reflective. PFM crowns are often placed on back teeth, where you need increased strength for chewing.

Dental CrownsFind out when you may need to turn to our dentists in Brookfield, WI, for a dental crown.

Perhaps you treated a severely decayed or damaged tooth a while back, but suddenly something just doesn’t seem right with the tooth. We know that issues arise over time. So if that once treated tooth is still giving you trouble, our Brookfield, WI, family dentists Dr. Terence Geary and Dr. Mary Eileen Geary may recommend a dental crown.

This occurs most often when it comes to treating and supporting a tooth after a cavity. In most cases, the cavity will be removed and the tooth will be restored with a dental filling. However, sometimes the cavity is just too large and widespread and a large dental filling isn’t strong enough to be able to fully restore and rebuild the tooth.

In this situation, a dental crown may be the better option for protecting and the damaged tooth. After all, the last thing we want to see happen is for a dental filling to break or for the treated tooth to fracture or weaken even further over time. We can often nip this problem in the bud by placing a dental crown over the tooth from the very beginning.

What is the purpose of a dental crown?

A dental crown is designed to strengthen and reinforce a tooth by surrounding it and providing it with a protective structure that encapsulates it. Just as you put a cast around a broken bone to protect it, our Brookfield, WI, general dentist will place a dental crown over the tooth to make sure it can withstand the powerful chewing and biting forces of the jaw. As you might imagine, placing a crown will make it easier to eat the foods you love without worrying about the strength and durability of your tooth.

A dental crown is a great option for anyone who is dealing with a damaged or weak tooth due to:

  • Trauma
  • Decay
  • Infection

A crown also has the ability to improve the shape, color, size and appearance of a tooth to improve the aesthetics of your smile.

The most important thing you can do for the health of your smile is to come in for routine checkups every six months to make sure that your teeth remain healthy. After all, teeth can become weaker and issues can arise that you may not even notice. This is when it’s important to have general dentists in Brookfield, WI, who can help. Call Geary Dentistry today at (262) 860-1500.

TipstoBrightenYourSummerSmile

In summer, there is no shortage of occasions to show off your smile. Whether attending a wedding, graduation celebration, family reunion or neighborhood barbecue, you’ll want to look your best. But if your smile doesn’t shine as brightly as you’d like, a trip to the dental office may just be the confidence-booster you’re looking for. Here are some popular techniques to enhance your smile:

Teeth cleaning. A professional cleaning can make your mouth feel fresh and add sparkle to your smile. The dental hygienist uses special tools to get rid of plaque and tartar that you cannot remove during your oral hygiene routine at home. In addition, hygienists use a tooth-polishing tool that removes surface stains.

Professional whitening. Professional teeth whitening can achieve excellent results in one short office visit. But if you have several weeks before the big event on your calendar, you can also get winning results at home using custom-made whitening trays from the dental office. Either way, your smile can sparkle at summer celebrations.

Cosmetic bonding. If your teeth have small chips or cracks, cosmetic bonding may be a good option for you. In bonding, tooth-colored material is shaped to the tooth and hardened with a curing light. The procedure—generally done in one office visit without anesthesia—is relatively inexpensive, and the result is very natural-looking.

Porcelain veneers. If you are unhappy with the color, shape, size or spacing of your teeth, long-lasting dental veneers can give your smile a whole new look. Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the tooth’s surface. Because they may be crafted in a dental lab, they may require two to three visits to the dental office over a few-week period.

With so many options, it’s easy to put your best smile forward at all your summer gatherings. We can help. If you have any questions about brightening your smile, please contact our office or schedule a consultation. BaseballsFranciscoLindorShinesasMrSmile

At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

If you’d like more information about oral health or cosmetic dentistry, please contact us or schedule an appointment for a consultation. You can also learn more by reading the Dear Doctor magazine articles “Beautiful Smiles by Design” and “The Impact of a Smile Makeover.”

Even if your teeth are healthy, you're probably like most people and have a few things you'd change about the way they look. Maybe it's veneerstheir shape, length, or alignment, perhaps the color... maybe all of the above! With porcelain veneers from Dr. Terence Geary and Dr. Mary Eileen Geary, your dentists in Brookfield, Wisconsin, almost any of your cosmetic dental issues can become a thing of the past. Here you'll learn more about how the skilled staff at Geary Dentistry can give you a total smile makeover with porcelain veneers.

What are porcelain veneers?

Unlike other cosmetic dental procedures and products, which only treat one issue at a time, porcelain veneers from your Brookfield dentist conceal a multitude of problems that detract from the appearance of your smile. Each veneer, which is only about half the width of a dime, is custom-made to fit on the front of the corresponding tooth; the result is a beautiful smile that is strong and stable as well.

Could veneers help me?

If you have healthy teeth with cosmetic flaws, porcelain veneers from your Brookfield dentist could be exactly what you need. Minor alignment problems like spaces and overlaps are easily hidden behind the translucent porcelain. They also cover up stains that can't be fixed with traditional whitening procedures. Veneers are also a great way to even out the shape of one tooth or several; teeth that have worn-down edges or chips are instantly renewed once your veneers are in place.

Imagine having a bright, even, and perfect smile reflects back at you from the mirror. This image can become a reality when you contact Geary Dentistry in Brookfield, Wisconsin and ask to set up your porcelain veneers consultation. We look forward to helping you see your smile in a new light!
